There are two main choices to decide between really; solid lumber and manufactured products. Solid lumber is really the best choice, and will give the best look and feel, though will not perform any better in essence. If going down the cheaper manufactured route, marine grade plywood will be required.

How they look will also be important of course, they need to work with existing garden furniture and the general look and feel of the space of course. This is not an awkward thing though, as most designs can be tailor finished following purchase, though fully finished models are of course available.
